UK – Number of job vacancies down 1.67% in 2018, according to Jobfeed

The number of unique job vacancies posted online in the UK totaled more than 9.2 million in 2018, according to analysis by Jobfeed, Textkernel’s big data tool for vacancies. Overall, there were 1.67% fewer jobs posted in 2018 when compared with 2017.

Healthcare was the top job category in 2018, accounting for 12% of all job postings available and growing in market share by 0.1% year over year.

Administration and customer service accounted for 10.5% of all job postings, growing 0.5% on the year. This was followed by information and communication technology, which saw its market share slip slightly by 0.07%.

The biggest decline was seen in Sales and Trading which saw its market share drop by 1.49% in 2018 to 9.3%.

Most of the jobs available were posted in England (91.1% market share) which increased by 0.1% compared to the previous year. Scotland followed with 4.9% market share (down 0.07%), Wales at 2.5% market share (down 0.08%) and Northern Ireland with a 1.5% market share (up 0.05%).

Jobfeed’s analysis also showed a rise in part-time jobs in 2018. Full-time jobs accounted for 89.9% of all job postings, down from 91% the previous year. Part-time jobs accounted for 10.1% of all job postings, up from 9.0% the previous year.
