UK – More workers, particularly millennials, outspoken about employers

18 January 2017

UK workers, especially millennials, are becoming increasingly outspoken online about their dissatisfaction with employers, according to research by Lee Hecht Harrison | Penna, a part of the Adecco Group.

Millennial workers, those ages 18 to 34 years old, are twice as likely go online to discuss their feelings about an employer than older workers aged 35 to 54. The research found 41% of millennials discussed their employer online compared to 21% of older workers.

In addition, millennials are more likely to notice negative reviews of employers online, with 69% doing so. Among older workers, 47% do so.

“The opinions of employees is something employers have long been concerned with, yet what our research highlights is how that feedback is to become even more critical to managing an employer brand with the rise of social media, and in particular networks that specifically target a professional audience like LinkedIn and Glassdoor,” said Nick Goldberg, CEO of UK and Ireland for Lee Hecht Harrison | Penna. “This also makes it even more important for oganisations to look after their leavers who will have much less to lose in letting the world know what they really think about their ex-employer.”

The research included 2,000 UK adults in full-time employment.
