UK – Human cloud firm Ola announces London operations following news on Uber licence

26 November 2019

Human cloud, ride-sharing platform Ola announced it has begun registering drivers in London. Ola’s announcement Tuesday comes after Transport for London said it would not renew the licence of Uber Technologies Inc.

Ola ranks as the sixth-largest B2C human cloud platform, according to Staffing Industry Analysts, and already operates in 27 other areas of the UK. The India-based firm began operations in Cardiff in August 2018; it has since expanded to Birmingham, Liverpool and other locations.

Simon Smith, head of international at Ola, said the company’s platform is fully compliant with TfL’s standards. Its app features driver facial recognition technology and driver verification against driving licence photographs. One of TfL’s concerns about Uber was that unauthorized drivers were able to upload their photos to other drivers’ accounts.

Ola was founded in 2011 by Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati.
