UK – HMRC wins tax appeal against BBC actor (ITV News)

23 April 2019

BBC actor Robert Glenister has lost a tax appeal against the HMRC, reports ITV News. The HMRC concluded in its case that, applying the provisions of the Social Security Contributions (Intermediaries) Regulations 2000, arrangements entered between Glenister and his PSC (Personal Service Company) Big Bad Wolff Ltd, and its clients made Big Bad Wolff liable for national insurance contributions. Glenister said he is facing a bill of £147,000 plus interest. He added that it was unfair for the HMRC to backdate payments until 2004 when the revenue did not contact him until 2010. In 2017, a judge ruled against Big Bad Wolff after a tribunal hearing, and the company’s appeal has now been dismissed.
