UK – Government names and shames hundreds of companies for failing to pay minimum wage (BBC)

17 February 2017

The UK government has named 360 businesses which have failed to pay either the National Minimum Wage or the National Living Wage, reports BBC. More than 15,500 workers had to be paid back nearly £1 million. The 360 businesses that broke the law were also fined £800,000 in total by the HMRC. Among the companies named included Debenhams, which responded by saying they have reimbursed those affected.

Another HMRC investigation found that Argos was paying thousands of staff less than the minimum wage. The workers are set to receive £2.4 million in back pay while Argos was fined £1.5 million by the HMRC.
