UK – Deloitte, Zurich Insurance and others ban limited company contractors ahead of IR35 reforms (Contractor UK)

10 February 2021

Deloitte, Bank of Ireland, Three UK, Zurich Insurance and Metro Bank are all banning limited company contractors due to the upcoming private sector IR35 reforms, reports Contractor UK. The implementation of the IR35 reforms to the private sector is set to be introduced on 6 April 2021. Other companies including BP, UST and Ruffer, will also reportedly stop hiring personal service limited company (PSCs) ahead of 6 April 2021. A spokeswoman for Deloitte said, “We need to ensure that we’re compliant with the government’s new off-payroll working rules. The complexities of engaging with contractors through PSCs mean this is no longer a viable option, so we will engage them through umbrella companies or agencies.” A spokeswoman for Zurich Insurance similarly said the company will be engaging via umbrella companies/PAYE (pay as you earn) from April and telecommunications company Three UK said it will also engage with contractors on a PAYE basis. A Bank of Ireland spokesperson said, “While some of the big banks look set to stop working with contractors due to IR35 reform, there are plenty of other firms that will continue engaging genuine contractors outside IR35.”
