UK – Confidence falls for healthcare workers (LinkedIn)

18 June 2020

For workers in the UK’s healthcare industry, confidence has fallen 16%, according to LinkedIn’s latest Workforce Confidence Index covering how workers feel about their jobs, finances and career outlooks. The healthcare industry scored a 21 on a scale ranging from -100 to +100. It had been 24 in the previous index release. On the other hand, the index reading for corporate services rose 91% and the reading for the media and communications industry rose 57%.

LinkedIn surveyed over 6,000 UK professionals between 13 April to 31 May asking about their job security, financial well-being and career outlook.

The overall confidence score for the UK is 13, the same as it has been in each edition of the index since it launched at the start of April but there is variation depending on the size of business. Notably, confidence among workers at small and medium-sized businesses has risen 19% since the last wave of data (two weeks ago), and is up 11% among mid-market company employees. Meanwhile, confidence has dropped 37% among employees at bigger enterprise businesses.

LinkedIn also surveyed 4,977 UK remote workers workers in three waves across 27 April - 3 May, 4 - 17 May and 18 - 31 May to ask whether or not they felt they could work effectively remotely. Those working in marketing roles were the most positive in response to this question with 86% saying they felt they could work effectively while away from the office, followed by 85% of those in finance roles, 83% of those in consulting positions and 80% in programme and project management roles. Unsurprisingly, at the other end of the scale, just 40% of those working in healthcare services said they could be effective while working remotely, which is understandable as this group includes surgeons, nurses and other professionals who are unable to work remotely as they need face-to-face time with patients.
