UK — Chief Commercial Officers are the latest trend

24 August 2009

The relatively new position of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is becoming more and more popular in the international business world. According to John Abele, Managing Partner at Human Resources specialists Heidrick & Struggles, says that "in 2001 the where only five CCOs in the world. The number reached 56 in 2008. With 36 CCO hirings in the first half of 2009, this year will see the highest number of CCO appointments yet."

Mr. Abele says further "companies are looking for one person who can take responsibility for every aspect of dealing with customers, from sales and marketing to customer service and product development."

"The explosion of new sales channels, especially online, has forced everybody to think differently about how to reach customers. Every new title reflects new priorities. A CCO is supposed to ensure that the company's best ideas make it to the marketplace, where they can generate bigger revenues and profits, even in an economic downturn. Organisations have come to recognise that, in the long run, you can't cut your way to growth."
