UK – Call centre worker wins paternity discrimination case against Capita (Telegraph)

13 June 2017

A call centre employee working for Capita has won a landmark discrimination case against the outsourcing firm for failing to give him paternity leave, reports the Telegraph. The worker, Madasar Ali, was told by Capita that he would get two weeks pay, whereas women are entitled to 14 weeks. The case is the first of its kind to be won by a man since the UK government introduced legislation allowing parents to share pay and leave two years ago. A Capita lawyer argued that Ali wasn’t eligible for maternity leave since he could not give birth. Capita added that it would appeal the decision.
