UK – Baby boomers increasingly applying for jobs within the gig economy (The Independent)

08 February 2017

More people from the baby boomer generation are applying for jobs in the gig economy than any other age group, reports the Independent, with data from Indeed. An analysis of job search patterns dating back to 2014 shows that 180 out of every million searches done by baby boomers was for work with companies like ride-sharing service Uber and food delivery group Deliveroo. This is 22% more than the number of searches conducted by millennials for jobs in that category. “Baby boomers who are now in or approaching retirement age have valuable skills and experience they can deploy in the workplace,” Mariano Mamertino, economist at Indeed, said.
