UK – Agency workers at Boohoo warehouse risk getting fired for smiling (BBC)

01 February 2017

An undercover TV investigation by Channel 4 found that agency workers at fashion retailer Boohoo’s warehouse in Lancashire were allegedly being punished for smiling, checking their phone or being a few minutes late to a shift, reports BBC News. Channel 4 sent an undercover reporter to work for agency Tailored Recruitment Services at the Boohoo warehouse, where the reporter was paid the minimum wage as an “order picker” and found that being one minute late resulted in a docking of 15 minutes pay. Tailored Recruitment Services stated that it would take appropriate action if needed. Boohoo has denied the allegations in a letter responding to the investigation and reaffirmed its relationship with Tailored.
