Turkey’s paid employees rise 2.2% over year

The number of paid employees in Turkey rose by 2.2% year over year in June to a total of 14.9 million, according to data released Tuesday by the Turkish Statistical Institute.

However, the number of paid employees decreased 0.3% between May and June based on seasonally adjusted data.

Looking at the number of paid employees by sector, the “administrative and support service” sector recorded an increase of 60,622 year over year for total employment of nearly 1.4 million. Accommodation and food services activities employment rose by 43,690 jobs to nearly 1.3 million.

In construction, the number of paid employees in June was up 103,857 to nearly 1.6 million. It also saw the largest year-over-year percentage increase in jobs among all sectors at 6.9%.

However, manufacturing jobs fell by 23,411 year over year to a total 4.7 million. Losses were also seen in mining and quarrying employment, which fell 2,302 year over year to 143,796.
