Temporary work placements fall in Portugal in August

The number of temporary work placements in Portugal decreased by 2,818 people in August 2023 when compared to August 2022, according to the latest Barometer from the Portuguese Association of Companies in the Private Sector of Employment and Human Resources and ISCTE (University Institute of Lisbon).

August data showed that the number of placements in August 2023 totalled 31,535 while the index stood at 0.92. The Barometer noted that the TT Index value observed in August is the lowest in the last 30 months.

The proportion of temporary work placement contracts signed by female workers stood at 42.7% in August compared to 57.3% for men.

By age group, 24.8% of contracts were signed by workers aged 16-24. This was followed by 25-29 (20.7%), 40-49 (17.6%), 30-34 (16.0%), 35-39 (12.7%), and 50+ (8.1%).

Companies that resorted to temporary work operate mainly in the ‘manufacture of components and accessories for motor vehicles’ sector, representing 12.6% of the total contracts signed in August.

In terms of the distribution of temporary work by main professions, demand was led by ‘Other Elementary Professions’ (25.8%).
