Switzerland – Unemployment rate falls in March

The Swiss registered unemployment rate fell to 2.5% in March 2019 from 2.9% in the same period last year, according to figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Figures from SECO showed that when compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 18,072 persons, or 13.9%.

Youth unemployment (age 15-24) decreased by 1,978 persons, or 14.6%. The number of unemployed 50 and over decreased by 4,767 persons (-13.0%).

Meanwhile, the number of jobseekers in March 2019 fell by 5.8%, or 11,652 persons.

Figures published earlier this week from the Adecco Group showed that Swiss companies advertised 7% more job ads in the first quarter of 2019 when compared to the same period a year ago.
