Switzerland – Temporary staffing market declines in July

17 August 2016

The number of temporary workers in Switzerland fell by 8.9% in July year-on-year, according to the latest figures from Swiss Staffing, the Swiss Federation of Staffing Companies.

Since the beginning of the year, the number of temporary workers declined by 0.3%.

The evolution shown by the swisstemptrend is difficult to interpret in July, according to Swiss Staffing. It is possible that Brexit is a relevant economic explanation for the cooling of the market in July. The KOF Employment indicator also notes that the Swiss labor market is idling.

Moreover, these negative figures may also have statistical reasons. In July 2015, the swisstemptrend showed record growth in the numbers of temporary workers of 10%. This trend was not sustained and has not been relieved by other indicators, suggesting that it was a statistical anomaly. Compared to July 2016, the value of 2015 would be too high and could explain this deviation from the current figures.
