30 July 2018

In the first half of the year, the number of hours worked by temporary workers in Switzerland increased by 12.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from Swiss Staffing, the Swiss Federation for Staffing Companies.

In the second quarter, Swiss Staffing reported that growth slowed to 10.5% however it added that the current economic recovery is opening up new opportunities for jobseekers.

Swiss Staffing points to figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) showed that in 2017, there were 365,000 temporary workers, corresponding to a 2.3% share of total employment in full-time equivalents.

“The current upswing in temporary work is due to strong job growth in the industrial sector,” Marius Osterfeld, economist at Swiss Staffing said. “The international economy and the weaker franc are boosting exports and creating more jobs thanks to new orders.”
