Switzerland – Job offers on the rise, computer science professionals see biggest increase in demand

Swiss companies posted 6% more job vacancies in the fourth quarter of 2017 than in the same period last year, according to The Adecco Group’s Swiss Job Market Index.

The index, published with the University of Zurich, showed that an increase in job vacancies could be observed in most regions of Switzerland. Meanwhile, the largest  year-on-year increase in job vacancies was seen within the computer science sector (74%).

"For the second consecutive quarter, we are seeing strong growth in computer science professions. Switzerland is intensively searching for computer scientists in the context of progressive automation and digitization,” Nicole Burth, CEO of The Adecco Group Switzerland, said.

In the Lake Geneva region, companies posted 21% more job ads in the fourth quarter than for the same period last year. Eastern Switzerland also grew by 15% compared to the previous year.

The Lake Geneva region saw an increased demand in the occupations of technology and computer science (50%). The industrial and construction jobs also saw an increase (35%).

Overall, across Switzerland, the number of job ads for computer science increased by 74%. This was followed by the industry and transport sector which saw a 29% increase in job ads for the same period.
