Switzerland – Job ads up 8.4% in December: Michael Page Swiss Job Index

Across Switzerland, advertised jobs grew 8.4% in December 2019 on an annual basis, according to the latest Michael Page Swiss Job Index.

When compared to the previous month, advertised jobs across Switzerland declined 3.3% between November and December 2019.

IT Specialists led the monthly growth in advertised jobs with an industry average of 2.4% (November – December 2019) and 16.0% year-on-year growth (December 2018 – December 2019). The index showed that demand was particularly strong for software specialists and testers, SAP (systems applications and products) specialists as well as in IT support and administration.

Meanwhile, the German-speaking region, which accounts for 9 out of 10 advertised jobs, recorded a monthly decline of -3.2% and an annual growth rate of 8.5%.

The Swiss Romande region reported a monthly decline of -4.3% and annual growth of 7.4%. The index stated that the monthly decline was in line with the seasonal trend for businesses to minimize recruitment activities during the holiday period.

“With strong growth across many areas there is every reason to be positive about the demand for specialists in 2020”, Nicolai Mikkelsen, Executive Director, Michael Page, said.

All regions showed positive annual growth rates, led by the canton of Zurich (+13.5%)
