Spain - Temporary employment agencies are immune to the economic crisis

According to the latest figures from the Ministry for Labour the number of temporary employment agencies registered in Spain has not changed since 2000 and still amounts to 360 companies in 2009 in spite of a considerable downturn in their level of activity.

The latest official statistics show that between 2008 and 2009 the number of temporary employees placed into companies has gone down from 329,143 to 157,753.


Temporary employment agencies are still not allowed to operate in “dangerous sectors��VbCrLf such as the construction industry. They are equally not allowed to work in the public administration sector. The Spanish government is currently mediating talks between the unions and the employers’ associations. The unions are strictly against allowing temporary employment agencies to operate in these sectors, the employer’s associations are in favour.
