Spain – STEM jobseekers rank salary and job security at the top when looking for a job

31 August 2022

An attractive salary and job security are the top two factors that STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) jobseekers in Spain look for when they are choosing a company to work for, according to research from Randstad Spain.

The research showed that 68% of STEM workers say an attractive salary is what they look for when job searching, this was followed by 63% for job security, 61% for work-life balance, 59% for financial stability, and 59% for good working environment.

Randstad’s research showed certain differences between workers in different sectors. While pay was clearly the most important factor for engineers (cited by 71%), only 55% of professionals with scientific skills feel the same. In fact, it ranked third behind job security (60%) and a pleasant work environment (58%).

Oriol Mas, general director of Randstad Training and Human Capital Consulting, said, "One of the main obstacles to economic recovery, after the toughest months of the pandemic, is the lack of talent, a problem for which companies cannot find the professionals they need for their companies. To tackle it, we recommend employers not to lose sight of what professionals are looking for in companies, since, beyond salary, they demand aspects such as conciliation, the work environment or job security.”
