Spain – Part-time employment rate falls in 2018, Randstad finds

The part-time employment rate in Spain fell to 13.9% in 2018, a decrease of 1.1% from last year and the lowest figure in the past seven years, according to findings from Randstad Spain.

Randstad’s data found that 2.71 million persons had a part-time contract in 2018, a decrease of 3.7% to 2017’s figure of 2,81 million.

According to Randstad, younger professionals are more likely to be in part-time employment. More than one in three professionals (34.1%) under 25 years of age works part-time. This is followed by professionals 25 and 45 years (13.8%) and those over 45 (11.6%).

When this rate is compared with last year, Randstad found that the part-time employment figure fell in all age groups with the decline being more pronounced in the case of younger workers aged under 25 (-4.3%). This was followed by the employee aged between 25 and 45 years (-1.3%) and professionals over 45 (-0.7%).

Among the regions, 15.4% of Andalusian workers had a part-time contract in 2018, this was the highest figure. Extremadura and La Rioja followed with each having a part-time employment rate of 15.1%.
