Research carried out by staffing services group Hays Spain reveals that the demand for gerontology* specialists is expected to rise exponentially due to the aging population.
In general, demand for doctors was five times higher than supply in Spain last year. Especially those doctors who speak several languages, have international experience and are geographically mobile, are being snatched up by the pharmaceutical industry.
However, sales representatives for the pharmaceutical industry are feeling the pinch at the moment. Sergio Hinchado, Head of Hays Healthcare Spain comments, "Commercial representatives are the worst hit by the economic crisis in the pharmaceutical sector. There is also reduced demand for quality control managers and laboratory technicians."
