Spain – Companies that pay lower than their competition also offer fewer opportunities for growth

12 April 2018

Companies in Spain that offer lower salaries often also offer fewer opportunities for promotion and training, according to research from Randstad Spain.

Randstad’s study showed that 34% of companies that have lower salaries than competing organisations in their sector do not offer promotion opportunities. Meanwhile, 25% offer no training plans, and 24% have a “worse” working environment than their higher-salaried competitors.

The study also showed that fewer opportunities for promotion lead to a problem for many companies. The study analysed the reasons as to why certain companies have difficulties in retaining and then upskilling their employees. One of the reasons is low salary (39% of employees said this.) Another reason was lack of progression opportunities (25%), lack of knowledge of the company (22%), lack of training (17%) and the office location (16%).
