Spain – Christmas season to bring in a record 400,000 temporary work contracts, Randstad finds

22 October 2018

This Christmas season is set to generate more than 400,000 temporary work contracts in Spain, an increase of 8.3% over last year and the highest number in history, according to data from Randstad Spain.

The temporary jobs are set to be created in the Christmas season running from November to January and the sectors that are driving the growth in temporary jobs are the commerce, hospitality, transport and logistics sectors.

Employment in the Christmas season is also set to increase in all the provinces.

"The hiring planned for this year marks a new historical record, exceeding 400,000 for the first time,” Luis Pérez, director of Institutional Relations at Randstad, said.

Perez added that this time of year is one of the best opportunities for those workers who want to get their first job or re-join the labour market, as companies need to strengthen their staff. In addition, Perez said that approximately 40% of permanent contracts come from a temporary contract, so this temporary job could be a “bridge to stable employment” and an “ideal tool to provide flexibility to companies.”
