South Africa – AdvTech finalises acquisition of Monash South Africa

09 April 2019

South African recruitment firm AdvTech which also operates in the education sector, announced that it has fulfilled all conditions and received approval from the Competition Tribunal to acquire Monash South Africa, a South African private tertiary education institution with students from more than 50 countries.

AdvTech first announced that it would acquire Monash South Africa in September 2018 for an undisclosed amount.

With the acquisition now approved, the transaction, effective from 1 April 2019, will result in Monash South Africa now being incorporated into ADvTECH's higher education division, The Independent Institute of Education; it will be branded IIE MSA. This increases AdvTech’s tertiary student complement to over 43,000.

Roy Douglas, AdvTech Group CEO, commented, “We are delighted to be able to add MSA, which offers a world-class education environment, with a strong track record for student employability, outstanding pass rates and qualification completion times, to our existing portfolio of highly respected brands which includes Varsity College, Vega and Rosebank College.”

“The IIE MSA campus, located on Johannesburg's West Rand, is one of the largest private higher education precincts in the country,” ADvTech said in a statement. “In addition to a state-of-the-art campus, IIE MSA also brings to the ADvTECH portfolio a comprehensive suite of premium programmes, an extensive executive education and training portfolio and highly sought-after programmes such as its engineering and public health.”
