Scotland – Bar worker on zero-hours contract wins shift cancellation case (BBC News)

29 June 2018

A bar worker on a zero-hours contract in Inverness, Scotland has won a legal dispute with his former employers over last-minute shift cancellations, reports BBC News. The bar worker, Alasdair Thomson, said his shifts were cancelled on a number of occasions leaving him unable to find other work to replace his lost wages. Thomson added that the last-minute shift changes had a ‘huge effect’ on his life. His claim against his former employers was backed by Better than Zero, a campaign fighting zero-hours contracts. Thomson’s lawyers said the case was settled before a judgement was handed down. Better than Zero said it hoped the case would lead to "significant changes" in employers' practices in the hospitality industry.
