Saudi Arabia – Recruitment agencies charging double the advertised price (Arabian Business)

04 January 2018

Recruitment firms in Saudi Arabia are charging their clients twice the advertised rate, reports Arabian Business with data from Al-Watan News. The fees are a breach of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development’s pricing regulations, which were enacted to prevent exploitation of migrant workers. The recruitment agencies, which were not identified, stated that the rates were arbitrary and do not reflect the true cost of bringing workers from overseas.  Khalid Al-Sulaim, Deputy Chairman of the Recruitment Offices Committee at Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the price set by the ministry for workers recruited from Sri Lanka is far lower than the cost of recruiting workers from Sri Lanka and added that “recruitment offices are not happy with the ministry's regulations.” A ministry spokesman stated that inspection campaigns will be carried out to ensure that the guidelines are followed.
