Russia: Sniper job posting is fake news

19 August 2019

The Russian National Guard has described the announced recruitment of a sniper to ensure security during mass events via the newly-listed job board, HeadHunter, as fake news according to the Interfax news agency.

The vacancy was posted on the HeadHunter website allegedly on behalf of the Moscow OMON Special Forces. OMON is a system of special police units of the Federal Police force within the National Guard of Russia. The announcement said that the agency was looking for a sniper to ensure security during mass events and was offering a monthly salary of RUB 40,000 to RUB 60,000  (USD 599 to USD 898).

"This information is wrong. It's another fake; the Russian National Guard has not posted such announcements," agency spokesman Valery Gribakin told Interfax.

According to the HeadHunter website “the vacancy is currently indicated as archived. "It seems the employer has found the fitting candidate, and the vacancy is closed".
