Russia – Government forces Apple and Google to remove LinkedIn from app stores (New York Times)

09 January 2017

Russian authorities have demanded that Apple and Google pull the LinkedIn mobile app from their app stores in a move tied to a court ruling from November that blocked access to the service for ignoring local internet regulations, reports the New York Times. Both companies have complied with the request and as a result, smartphone users in Russia are no longer able to download the LinkedIn app. "We are disappointed with [Russia’s telecom regulatory agency] Roskomnadzor's action to block LinkedIn”, a LinkedIn spokesperson said in a statement to Recode. “It denies access to our members in Russia and the companies that use LinkedIn to grow their businesses”.
