Romania – More than 19,000 Romanians left the country for overseas jobs in H1 2018

20 August 2018

Employment agencies found and brokered foreign jobs for 19,070 Romanian citizens in the first half of 2018, mostly in countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain and England, according to data from the Labour Inspectorate.

Data from the Labour Inspectorate also found that 282 Romanian workers obtained employment contracts through the EURES network, the European Commission’s job mobility portal.

Romania’s national agency for employment (ANOFM) set up the national EURES portal as an information instrument about vacant jobs received from European employers, contact data of EURES councillors and other useful data. EURES Romania promotes all job offers from European employers by posting them on the national EURES portal, through county agencies for jobs and through the media.

When broken down by country, during the first half of the year, 88 Romanian workers found employment contracts in Spain, 58 in Denmark, 49 in Portugal, 46 in the UK, 17 in Holland, 10 in Germany, 6 in Finland, 4 in Belgium. Meanwhile, Slovakia, Malta, Hungary and France each had one worker.

According to data from Eurostat, the Romanian unemployment rate stood at 4.5% in June 2018.
