Poland – Temporary employment remains popular, but numbers fall

21 August 2019

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy reported that the number of temporary workers recruited by agencies in 2018 amounted to 776,144, a decrease of 87,681 from 2017.

According to the Polish News Bulletin, the decreasing number of temporary workers does not imply that the popularity of temporary employment agencies is declining, as the number of employers cooperating with temporary employment agencies is growing. Under half (44%) of temporary workers in 2018 were employed on fixed term contracts. In 2017, fixed term contracts were offered to 47% of temporary workers.

Temporary employment was especially popular in casual unskilled positions (243,339), warehousing and related positions (217,322) and low-skilled industrial positions (161,141). Foreign citizens accounted for 35% of the total number of temporary workers (270,755) in 2018. Ukrainian citizens accounted for 91% of the total number of foreign temporary workers in Poland.
