27 March 2018

In the five years to 2017, the number of Dutch employees who work from home increased by more than 300,000 with the greatest increase coming from working women, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands.

In 2017, more than 3 million Dutch worked from home on a full-time or part-time basis, which equals approximately 37% of all Dutch workers. In 2013, this figure stood at about 34%. In 2017, 38% of men worked from home compared to 35% of women. In 2013, the figure was 37% for men and 32% for women, which shows a strong increase for women as well as a narrowing gap when it comes to working from home.

For women, the majority of homeworkers (71%) worked in the creative or linguistic sectors. This was followed by managers (70%) and ICT professionals (68%). For men, the majority of homeworkers were in the ICT sector (69%), which was followed by those in the teaching sector (68%).
