Netherlands – Workers with non-western backgrounds more likely to be in flexible employment relationships

10 December 2018

Workers with a non-western background more often had a flexible employment relationship than native Dutch workers, according to a report from Statistics Netherlands.

It found 34% of those with a non-western background had a flexible employment relationship while 21% of native Dutch did.

“This difference is relatively large among workers with low and intermediate educational attainment,” according to the report. “Among the lower educated, 46% of workers with a non-western migration background have a flexible employment relationship, against 33% of those with a native Dutch background.”

For more highly educated workers, the difference is smaller with 21% of non-western migrants having a flexible contract compared to 15% of Dutch workers.
