Netherlands – Temporary employment sector revenue up 10% in Q1 2023

02 June 2023

The temporary employment sector reported revenue growth in Q1 2023 of 10% when compared to the same quarter a year earlier, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Growth was driven mainly by the smaller employment agencies.

Last month, data from the Bureau showed that temporary employment agencies in the Netherlands had 7,000 fewer jobs in the first quarter of 2023 than in the previous quarter, a decrease of 0.9%.

ABU (Dutch Federation of Private Employment Agencies) also recently published data which showed the total amount of hours worked by temporary workers in the Netherlands for the fourth period of 2023 (27 March through 23 April) decreased by 17% when compared to the same period last year,

Further data from the Bureau noted that revenue from business services was 14.9% higher in the first quarter of 2023 than in the first quarter of 2022. Revenue has now been rising by double digits for 2 years in a row, partly due to higher prices.

Meanwhile, business confidence in business services rose to 9.4 in the second quarter of 2023. This is a slight increase compared to a quarter earlier, when business confidence was 8.7.
