Netherlands – Strong job growth driven by staffing industry

The number of jobs in the Netherlands increased for Q4 2015 compared to the previous quarter with 11,000 new jobs driven primarily by the staffing industry, according to the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The number of employees from employment agencies rose by 20,000 in Q4 compared to Q3. On a year-on-year basis, the number of jobs in the staffing industry grew by 75,000 (12%).

This growth in jobs is the strongest seen since the first half of 2011 and marks the seventh consecutive quarter of job growth. The number of employed people increased by 48,000.

The data also showed that the number of unemployed increased by 5,000 to reach a total of 600,000. 

CBS reports that the number of employed reached 10 million, non-seasonally adjusted. There was also an increase of full-time and part-time jobs, which went up 48 thousand new workers compared to the previous quarter.

According to the data, employed persons worked in the fourth quarter, a total of 3.2 billion hours

In Q4 2015, 72% of all employees were on permanent contract and 2.1 million were self-employed.
