Netherlands – Jobseekers increasingly looking at Poland for work opportunities, Indeed finds

13 September 2019

Job searches from the Netherlands for roles in Poland have spiked this year, according to data from Indeed.

Nearly 14% of overseas job searches in the Netherlands are for Poland, an increase of 2.5% compared to last year. Poland was second only to the US (nearly 18%) for overseas job searches. However job searches in the US were down by more than 5% from last year.

Indeed found that the vacancies that were looked at were in Polish, meaning that this likely involves mostly jobseekers of Polish descent.

According to data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), nearly 180,000 jobs in the Netherlands were filled by Polish workers. They were also among the lowest paid workers.

“Poland's economy has been growing above average for years," Sander Poos, Managing Director Benelux at Indeed, said. "Unemployment is falling and wages are rising. Poland no longer needs to look for employment abroad.”

Meanwhile, when it comes to searches from abroad on the Dutch website of Indeed, Germany accounts for more than 16%, an increase of almost 2%. Belgium is second, with more than 15% followed by the UK at more than 11%.

"Dutch is a relatively easy foreign language for Germans to learn,” Poos said. "In addition, many Germans feel at home in Dutch culture. Conversely, German employees are appreciated in the Netherlands, among other things for their level of education and work mentality."
