Netherlands – ABU to set up platform for freelance providers this year

09 April 2018

The Dutch Federation of Private Employment Agencies (ABU) will launch a new platform for freelancer providers this year.

According to Zipconomy, ABU Senior Policy Officer Lisette van Rossum stated that although ABU is mainly known as a representative of temporary employment agencies and payroll companies, with the rise of many more forms of flexible work that are emerging on the labour market, the ABU will aim to unite these forms of flexible work as much as possible to give them one voice.

“The new platform will mainly focus on 'a well-functioning ZZP (Dutch term for freelancers) market', in which entrepreneurs are given space and freedom for entrepreneurship. But where at the same time there is also a protection framework for other workers who need it,” the ABU stated.

“We think it's good to have one voice in The Hague on behalf of the ZZP service provider, but also to share knowledge and focus on quality,” van Rossum said. “Because quality guarantee is crucial for both the self-employed as well as the clients.”

“Freelancer service providers will not only have a clear voice towards politics, but also the opportunity to network with each other, meetings will be held to exchange knowledge, participants can also receive tailor-made legal services,” van Rossum said.

Van Rossum also added that the main goals of the new platform are that the position of ZZP intermediaries should become clearer and their combined market share greater.
