Job ads on Jobindex hold steady in August amid economic uncertainty

05 September 2023

Danish job board Jobindex reported 24,500 new job advertisements were posted online in August 2023 on a seasonally adjusted basis. The job board also noted there are currently slightly more job adverts posted online than before Covid-19 pandemic.

On August’s figures, Jobindex stated, “It is too early to talk about a permanent turnaround, but if we ignore the holiday month of July, the level of the number of new job ads posted online has been fairly constant at a level of around 24,500-25,000 since May.”

While Jobindex noted that ‘there is no question of a crisis’ in the job market, companies can be said to be adapting to more uncertain economic times.

“We have employment figures up to and including June, and they show continued rising employment, although the rate of increase has slowed,” Jobindex stated. “There is nothing in the figures from the Danish Job Index to indicate a significant turnaround in the employment trend. It cannot therefore be denied that employment will continue further despite more uncertain economic prospects.”

The number of new job adverts posted online peaked in the first quarter of last year, when an average of 34,000 new job adverts were posted online per month. Since then, the number of job ads posted online fell and in July this year reached 23,800 new job adverts on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Since May, the number of newly advertised white-collar positions in the private sector has stabilised. The same applies to positions in the public sector. On the other hand, there still seems to be a slight decrease in the number of new job advertisements for positions in the private sector with a focus on more manual work.

According to Jobindex, high inflation, the rising interest rates, the falling stock prices and the significant economic uncertainty left their mark on the job market last year and at the beginning of 2023.

Last week, Jobindex reported revenue for the second quarter of DKK 96.6 million (€12.9 million), a decrease of 17.8% compared with the same quarter in the previous year.

Jobindex also announced it is suing tech giant Google over the copying of job ads.
