Job ad index for UK down year over year in first week of August

UK online job advertisements were down in the week ended 4 August when indexed to the same week a year ago, according to data released on Thursday by the Office for National Statistics. The data comes from job board operator Adzuna.

Online job adverts were at an index level of 93.3 in the week ended 4 August when indexed to the same week a year ago for non-deduplicated job adverts. The index level was 100 for the prior-year week.

However, some industries saw advert index levels rise. Education job adverts were at an index level of 149.7 when indexed to the same week a year ago and oil and gas job adverts were at an index level of 113.4.

In the HR and recruitment industry, job adverts were at an index level of 61.1.

By region, job advert index levels were lower year over year in the week ended 4 August except in Northern Ireland and Scotland, where the index levels are 107.1 and 100.1, respectively. In London, the index stood at 86.1 while for all of England the index was 87.0. For Wales, the index was 93.9, and for Northern Ireland, the index was 97.2.
