Italy – Average number of temp workers down in May

The average number of temporary agency workers in Italy in May 2019 decreased by 6.5% on an annual basis, according to figures from Ebitemp, the bilateral organisation for temporary employment representing employers’ associations and unions.

At the same time, the total payroll of temporary workers decreased by 2.4% compared to the same month last year.

Ebitemp’s data also showed the number of hours worked in May 2019 decreased by 4.7% on an annual basis. Broken down by hours worked per worker, Ebitemp recorded an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous year.

The unemployment rate in Italy stood at 9.9% in May 2019 according to data from Eurostat.
