Ireland – Union wants investigation of agency fees in healthcare (The Irish Times)

21 November 2019

Trade union Siptu called for Ireland’s Health Services Executive to investigate fees paid to employment agencies when temporary staff convert to full-time roles, The Irish Times reported. The union delivered its concerns to the Oireachtas (Irish legislature) committee on health. Some fees have been up to €10,000, according to the report. Although temp-to-perm conversion fees are a standard practice, the newspaper said the union had only recently discovered the cost of such fees. The union also said that, overall, the Health Service Executive would spend more than €200 million on agency personnel this year.
