Ireland – Professional job vacancies down 2.5% in August, according to Morgan McKinley

The availability of professional jobs in Ireland decreased by 2.5% in August when compared to the same time last year according to data from the latest Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor.

The monitor also recorded a decrease of 13.7% in the number of professionals actively seeking new job opportunities in August 2018 when compared to August 2017, reflecting current economic conditions and near full employment.

On a month-to-month basis, the monitor registered a reduction of 7.2% in the number of new professional job opportunities available in August, Meanwhile, the monitor recorded an increase of 2.1% in the number of professionals seeking new roles in August compared to the previous month. August was the second consecutive month of robust job search activity among professionals.

Chief Operations Officer at Morgan McKinley Ireland, Karen O’Flaherty commented, "Overall, the employment market remained strong across all disciplines as companies remain optimistic in their hiring outlook, conscious of the need to attract and retain talent, while sensitive to any uncertainty within the global economic environment."

O’Flaherty added that Irish workers overseas are more actively searching for jobs in Ireland and that Morgan McKinley is seeing a lot of talent moving home from the UK. "With the economy approaching full employment, Ireland is proving attractive again for Irish immigrants,” O’Flaherty said.
