Ireland – Number of professional jobs available down 10.4% in March

16 April 2018

The number of professional jobs available in March 2018 in Ireland decreased by 10.4% when compared to the previous year, according to the latest Morgan McKinley Ireland Employment Monitor.

Morgan McKinley stated that the reduction in professional job vacancies was due to seasonal factors and unexpected business closures caused by adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the monitor also recorded a decrease of 13.5% in the number of professionals actively seeking new job opportunities in March 2018, compared to the same time a year ago. Morgan McKinley say this reflects improving economic conditions and a falling unemployment rate.

Morgan McKinley’s Monitor also published month-to-month figures which showed that the number of professional job vacancies was up 1.8% in March while there was an 8.9% reduction in the number of professionals seeking new roles in March.

“There were a number of factors impacting on professionals searching for new opportunities last month,” Trayc Keevans, the Foreign Direct Investment Director of Morgan McKinley Ireland, said. “There was also a noticeably reduced level of job search activity during the period of severe weather conditions at the beginning of March, as well as the Easter season. Looking ahead, Ireland is now within striking distance of full employment. As we approach that point, we will see further tightening of the labour supply and more competition for skilled staff.”
