08 July 2016

The number of job vacancies in Ireland increased by 7% compared to the same period last year and the number of online job ads increased by 4% compared to the previous quarter, despite the concern surrounding Brexit, according to the latest Irishjobs.ie Jobs Index.

Among sectors, the environmental, health, and safety sector showed the biggest improvement, increasing by 47% compared to the same period last year.

Among cities, the highest recorded vacancy rate was in Limerick and Dublin, with Leitrim and Waterford reporting the biggest percentage increases.

Meanwhile, the index also showed that 65% of respondents believe the market is improving, however the Brexit outcome has seen some concern spread among jobs-seekers.

Less than half of those surveyed expect companies to pull out of Ireland following the result but 80% believe some companies will leave the UK to come to Ireland. Meanwhile, the majority of those surveyed see the trade between UK and Ireland being negatively affected.
