Ireland – Law to clamp down on zero-hour contracts could be in place this spring (The Journal)

16 December 2018

The Irish government promises a new law banning zero-hour contracts will be in force in the spring, The Journal reported. The “Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill” will prohibit zero-hour contracts “except in situations of genuine casual employment,” according to The Journal. Staffing Industry Analysts’ lexicon defines zero-hour contracts as “a labour contract describing the conditions of work but without any guarantee of work. Employees issued with this type of contract are typically obliged to accept any work that is offered to them and make themselves available for work.”
