Ireland – Indeed job ad sparks controversy after it requests that jobseekers with young children ‘need not apply’ (The Sun)

13 September 2018

A job ad posted on Indeed seeking an office worker in Dublin has caused controversy after it stated ‘people with young children need not apply’, reports The Sun. The job ad was posted by an unnamed Dublin oil company looking for a "person for answering phone and computer skills". Under equality legislation in Ireland any discrimination based on grounds of family status is unlawful. The post has since been taken down from Indeed’s website after it was shared on Twitter which led to complaints from social media users about discrimination. An Indeed spokesperson told the Sun, “We encourage jobseekers to report these types of advertisements to us and we will continue to strive to prevent illegally discriminatory job solicitations from appearing on our site."
