Temporary employees were the first to suffer from the economic crisis in the country where they are far less protected from unemployment than their permanent counterparts. With the economy growing again, they are also the first to benefit, Financial Times Deutschland reports.
Christian Salge of Manpower Germany told the FTD, "I don’t expect any further drastic job losses." The temporary employment agency is looking for staff again and has 2,100 jobs to fill across Germany.
Randstad is equally conservatively positive. The Dutch temporary employment giant has 4,400 jobs to fill but says, "we hope that the current positive development in temporary employment is not just seasonal but a reflection of the improvement in the labour market."
Holger Schaefer, labour market specialist at the Institute of the German Economy, is confident that temporary employment is a thing of the future. He said, "temporary employment will become an increasingly attractive way of staffing in Germany."
