France – Trade union chief criticises UK and US over its workers’ rights (The Local)

15 January 2018

Philippe Martinez, the head of France’s biggest trade union, CGT, has said that France does not want to treat its workers like the UK and US, with zero hours contracts and no protection for the unemployed, reports the Local.Fr. Last year, Martinez and the CGT fought an unsuccessful battle with President Emmanuel Macron over a raft of controversial labour reforms. Martinez believes Macron is influenced by the "Anglo-Saxon" model, but he does not want to see the same situation in France. He also told the Local.Fr, that "We don't want to be like China where children are working in factories".
