France – Trade union calls for another strike against labour reform, but faces opposition from other unions (Reuters)

11 October 2017

French trade union, the CGT (Confédération générale du travail), has called for a third strike against President Emmanuel Macron’s overhaul of employment laws earlier this week but failed to get other unions to rally behind it, reports Reuters. The country’s three main unions have been divided over how to respond to the labour law reforms, with the CGT taking to the streets for strikes and protests while the CFDT (French Democratic Confederation of Labor), now France’s biggest union, and the Force Ouvriere preferring negotiations.
