France – Temporary employment up in October

24 November 2016

Temporary employment in France grew by 6.3% in October, according to data from Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

The data from Prism’ Emploi showed that temporary employment rose in all major sectors: transport (17.4%), services (6.9%), construction (6.0%), industry (4.9%) and trade (0.4%). The trade sector also showed growth after 5 months of decline.

Meanwhile, the figures also showed that 9 of the 12 metropolitan regions have a growth in the number of temporary workers, with an increase between 3% and 6%. The regions Pays de la Loire, Hauts-de-France and Normandie stand at 13.2%, 11.0% and 8.0% respectively.

During the first 10 months of the year (compared to the same period of 2015), just over 30,000 full-time equivalent jobs were created through temporary work.

The two occupational categories that create the most temporary jobs remain skilled workers (11.6%) and middle managers and intermediate occupations (8.0%). However, the gap with other occupational categories tends to narrow.

Intermediate employment grew among skilled workers (11.6%), managers and intermediate occupations (8.0%), employees (3.2%) and unskilled workers (2.6%).
